Impacts of the Tibet-Nepal Border Disaster
As of September 25 2026
- Kyirong – Rasuwagadhi border crossing closed indefinitely
- Dram (Chinese name: Zhangmu) – Kodari border crossing: closed but there is hope it may reopen.
- Everest Base Camp on the Tibet side: open
- Shigatse town re-opened following a brief closure after the flood. Travel as far as Sakya Monastery also open.
- Travel in Lhasa is unaffected by the flood
- Mt. Kailash: open after some restrictions. Can now again travel there via Saga.

Tibet Travel Permits
As always, you need a special Tibet permit in addition to your visa to enter Tibet (If you are from a visa-free country, you still need the permit). For the permit, you need the help of an official Tibet travel agency. (You can get connected here.)
