Entering the Jokhang Temple is a trip into another world: dim soft light, thousands of butter lamps flickering over ancient stones and reverant faces, incense and the hum of prayers as a crush of pilgrims hustle from one incredibly beautiful and precious image of the Buddha or Avalokiteshwara, or Padmesambava, to the next. There is an image of the Buddha as a twelve-year-old boy, the Jowo Rinpoche, that takes your breath away. This statue is one of thousands.
