|Three Generations of Pilgrims to the Jokhang
These three out-of-towners were visiting the Jokhang Temple, like most eveyone else in Lhasa. They stopped on their way in to watch me take pictures of the people prostrating outside, fascinated by the digital camera's instant images. With a repetoire of only 20 sentences or so in Tibetan, the camera became my main means of connecting with people when I was without my Tibetan companion. It was also a drag when I was trying to be discreet, since a crowd always gathered.
